SSAC Teams Fall In NAIA Softball National Championship Opening Round

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The remaining SSAC teams bowed out of the 2025 NAIA Softball National Championship Opening Round Wednesday. 
 
No. 5 seed UT Southern upset top-seeded LSU Alexandria in extra innings before falling to No. 2 Central Methodist in the championship game. Mobile went 1-1 on the day in a pair of one-run contests and Middle Georgia fell to the top-seeded Saints of OLLU. 
 
#2 Central Methodist def. #5 UT Southern 5-1
  • The Eagles plated two runs each in the fourth and sixth to break a 1-1 tie
  • Kassidy Davis and Mikayla McCain each went 2-for-3 at the plate
 
#5 UT Southern def. #1 LSU Alexandria 7-3 (8)
  • The Firehawks erupted for six runs on four hits in the eighth inning with Kassidy Davis and Carley Cook each driving in a pair
  • Ella Singletary allowed only three runs on five hits in 7.2 innings, while Mikayla McCain went 4-for-4 at the dish
 
#2 Texas A&M Texarkana def. #3 Mobile 2-1
  • Both teams managed only five hits in the game
  • TAMTU pushed across the winning run in the sixth after a leadoff walk and wild pitch, then a two-out RBI single
 
#3 Mobile def. #4 Cornerstone 4-3
  • The Rams walked off Cornerstone 4-3 on Bethany Dean’s pinch-hit RBI single in the seventh
  • Katelynn Kempton tossed two shutout innings of relief for the win
 
#1 Our Lady of the Lake def. #3 Middle Georgia 7-3
  • The Saints bookended the game with three runs in the first and four in the seventh
  • Middle Georgia got a two-hit day from Gabbie Haas, while Alexis Cosgrove went 1-for-2 with one RBI
