PENSACOLA, Fla. - John Brown (Ark.) soars into the quarterfinals on Thursday after a big 4-1 victory against Life (Ga.). The Golden Eagles improve to 15-2-4 while the Running Eagles close the book on the 2025 season at 18-3-1.
JBU took an early lead in the first half as Aubrey Winter opened the scoring in the 21st minute with a well-executed header into the bottom left corner, assisted by goalkeeper Marely Fonseca. John Brown added their second goal in the 29th minute when Caitlin Hilson swung in a shot from the corner, courtesy of an assist from Winter, as they had a shutout heading into halftime.
Life threatened to make a comeback, reducing the deficit early in the second half. In the 49th minute, Lilja Bjorg Olafsdottir scored with a high curling shot from the right side, making it 2-1. However, an own goal by Running Eagles in the 55th minute extended JBU's lead to 3-1.
Aubrey Winter struck again in the 85th minute, sealing the victory for John Brown with her second goal of the match, assisted by Julia Lambert. Winter also added one assist on the night.
John Brown's defense, led by goalkeeper Marely Fonseca, who recorded two saves. Life's goalkeeper, Elora Niederpruem, managed four saves despite conceding four goals from JBU's 12 shots.
JBU will have a few days of rest before taking on Cumberlands (Ky.) Thursday, Dec. 4, in the quarterfinals at 1 p.m. CT
