Xavier Claims Four ITA Regional Titles to Highlight SSAC Action

THIBODAUX, La. – Xavier claimed four ITA Gulf Regional titles this past weekend and will send those champions to the ITA Cup in Rome, Georgia, October 15-18, to compete against the nation's best singles and doubles competitors.

On the men's side, sophomore Christian Sanchez defeated Dillard's Siddharth Arya, 6-3, 6-1, to claim the Gulf Regional Singles Championship. On his way to the title, he took down William Carey's Alpay Guler in a 7-6 (5), 7-5 semifinal match. Xavier's Martin Rivera fell in the semifinals to Arya in straight sets.

In doubles action, XULA's Edilson Rosa and Fatih Sisic won a three-set thriller over a duo from Dillard to capture gold. Both the duo and Sanchez qualify for the ITA Cup.

On the women's side, Maja Brnic took down William Carey's Isabella Lechuga, 6-3, 6-4, before sweeping Dillard's Weichiao Chen in straight sets to capture the women's Gulf Regional Singles crown. She then teamed with Asadah Ma'at, who made the singles semifinals, to take down William Carey's duo of Lechuga and JiAn Kang, 6-2, 6-1, to win the doubles final. Both Ma'at and Brnic will go to Rome in a couple of weeks to compete as well.

Loyola's men's duo of Jett Nguyen and Luca Abati made a push in the doubles draw all the way to the semifinals, while Alfredo Gallegos made it to the quarterfinals in singles action.

Elsewhere in the ITA Regionals, Abraham Baldwin's Gaspard Filleteau made a run to the round of 16 in the South Regional, hosted by Georgia Gwinnett, on the men's side, while Catalina Pan and Denisa Alexic Raducu did the same on the women's side in singles action.
