Mobile Run-Rules OLLU In NAIA Softball World Series Opener

COLUMBUS, Ga. - [Watch On-Demand] Mobile (Ala.) erupted for 15 hits and scored in four of five innings to roll past Our Lady of the Lake (Texas), 9-1, on Thursday afternoon at South Commons Complex, earning a rest day tomorrow ahead of a 4 p.m. ET game on Saturday, May 23.

Our Lady of the Lake (43-12) struck first in the top of the first inning. Arianna Alejandro opened the game with a hit and later scored when Lilly Rocha reached on a fielder’s choice, giving the Saints a 1-0 lead.

Mobile (40-16) responded immediately and decisively against OLLU starter Annika Litterio. With traffic on the bases and three walks issued in the inning, Diana Arcay delivered the key hit with a two-run single up the middle to put the Rams in front. Lillie Lanham followed with an RBI single to left-center field as the Rams built a 3-1 lead after one inning.

After a scoreless second inning, Mobile broke the game open in the third with a four-run rally fueled by timely hitting and aggressive baserunning. Bethany Dean and Madeline Houk each drove in runs before Gracie Mitchell capped the inning with a two-run single up the middle, extending the lead to 7-1.

The Rams continued to add on from there. Dean delivered an RBI single in the fourth inning to make it 8-1, and Lanham’s RBI single in the fifth provided the final margin at 9-1.

Mobile pitcher Avery Harrell earned the win with a complete-game effort in the five-inning run-rule victory. Harrell allowed just three hits and one run while walking none. The Rams backed her with a clean defensive performance, committing no errors and turning two double plays.

Lanham led the Mobile offense with a perfect 4-for-4 performance, adding two RBIs, two runs scored, and a stolen base. Dean finished 2-for-2 with two RBIs, a run scored, and a walk, while Arcay went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Mitchell added a 2-for-3 effort with two runs scored, an RBI, and a walk.

Mobile finished with 15 hits and eight RBIs in the win. Alejandro accounted for two of OLLU’s three hits, finishing 2-for-2 with a double and the team’s lone run scored. The Saints did not draw a walk and stranded just two runners.

Litterio took the loss for OLLU after allowing three runs on three hits and three walks in 2/3 of an inning. Valeria Vielma worked the final four innings, surrendering six runs on 12 hits while striking out two. Harrell improved with the complete-game effort for Mobile, allowing one run on three hits over five innings.
