MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The SSAC announced the 2026 SSAC Softball Players of the Week. Mikayla McCain of UT Southern was named SSAC Softball Player of the Week and Julia Shaw of William Carey was named SSAC Softball Pitcher of the Week. The awards are for the week of Feb. 2-8.
Player: Mikayla McCain (UT Southern – SR – C – Morris, Ala.)
- This is her first-career weekly honor
- In a sweep of Bethel, McCain hit .750 and slugged 1.500, while totaling five runs, five RBIs and a homer
- She went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and two walks in game one and 2-for-2 with a homer and three RBIs in game two
Pitcher: Julia Shaw (William Carey – SR – INF/P – Hernando, Miss.)
- This is her second-career weekly honor
- Shaw went 2-0 in the circle with seven innings of three-hit relief across two games, allowing only one unearned run
- She got the win against No. 13 LSU-A with three innings of two-hit relief and tossed four shutout innings against Texas A&M San Antonio
