Carrillo called up to represent Mexico in World Baseball Classic

MEXICO CITY - From Harrison Field to the Major Leagues, now the international stage–Alex Carrillo will represent Mexico in the World Baseball Classic this March.

Carrillo's Mexico call-up is the first time a Faulkner Eagle has represented their country on the highest international stage in the sport.

Carrillo, who became the third Faulkner Eagle to play in the MLB with his July debut, has battled through numerous independent ball leagues before rapidly ascending the ranks of affiliated ball with the New York Mets organization and now sees a massive honor come to him, receiving the call-up to represent La Novena Mexicana.

The quadrennial event pits 20 countries together pool play matchups before a knockout stage tournament and features the biggest stars in the world competing for their country. Carrillo is joined on the roster with household names in the baseball world such as Alejandro Kirk, Rowdy Tellez and Randy Arozarena.

Mexico will compete in Pool B, starting the tournament on March 6 at noon against Great Britain with matchups also against Brazil and Italy, highlighted by a date with the United States on March 9 at 7 p.m. with all games being played in Houston's Daikin Park, home of the Astros.
