Day One Concludes At SSAC Women's Basketball Championship

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Day one of the 2026 SSAC Women’s Basketball Championship featured a pair of upsets, with ninth-seeded Mobile besting Brewton-Parker Christian and 10th-seeded Abraham Baldwin defeating Thomas. 
 
The tournament runs through Saturday, with a full slate of games set to take place Thursday. All games can be viewed live and on demand for free via the Urban Edge Network. Fans coming to watch in person can purchase tickets at https://ssacsports.com/tickets.

  • Making their first appearance at the tournament, the Fillies got the upset win thanks to a 24-13 fourth quarter
  • Shakiria Chaney finished with 23 points and 11 boards, shooting 8-of-15, while Reese Riddle added 13 points and five rebounds
  • Thomas got 16 points, 11 boards, five assists and three steals from Destiny Hill
  • ABAC shot 42% from the field and held the Night Hawks to 36% shooting overall, including 20% from distance
 
#9 Mobile def. #8 Brewton-Parker Christian 90-71
  • The score was tied at the break, but Mobile outscored the Barons 52-33 in the second half
  • Deja Pryor led Mobile with 25 points, knocking down 10-of-10 from the FT line, while Cierra Highland added 17 points
  • The Rams went 26-of-29 from the charity stripe and forced 23 turnovers in the game
