MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The SSAC released the 2022 softball award winners, highlighted by Mobile’s Alison Sellers-Cook being named Coach of the Year and William Carey’s Haley Nations being named Player and Pitcher of the Year.
 
Player of the Year: Haley Nations, William Carey (Miss.)
Coach of the Year: Alison Sellers-Cook, Mobile (Ala.)
Pitcher of the Year: Haley Nations, William Carey (Miss.)
Freshman of the Year: Mallory Jo Mitchell, Blue Mountain (Miss.)
Newcomer of the Year: Karlee Back, Middle Georgia State
Team Sportsmanship: Mobile (Ala.)  
 
Noteworthy

• Nations is 20-4 with a 0.94 ERA and 193 strikeouts in 156.1 innings for the sixth-ranked Crusaders. She has 18 complete games and recently threw a seven-inning shutout v. Stillman, with 15 K’s
• Sellers-Cook has guided the Rams to a 42-2 overall record, NAIA No. 1 ranking and SSAC regular season title. The Rams won a program-record 34-straight games this season
• Mitchell has played in all 44 games for the Toppers, hitting .344, with a team-high 43 hits, 25 runs and 14 walks
• Back has played in all 48 games for the Knights, hitting .453 and posting a .540 OBP, while stealing a program-record 44 bases
