WCU's Lina May Wins Individual 2022 NAIA Women's XC National Championship

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – (Complete Results) William Carey’s Lina May won the individual 2022 NAIA Women’s Cross Country National Championship Friday morning, cruising to an eight-second win with a time of 16:50.9.
 
History
This is the 46th individual National Championship all-time by an SSAC student-athlete. It is the third individual title in women’s cross country, with Justyna Mudy of Shorter accomplishing the feat in 2009 and 2010. William Carey’s Geoffrey Kipchumba won the men’s title in 2015.
 
Additional Notes
  • The Crusaders turned in a No. 17 finish as a team, while individuals from Blue Mountain, Loyola and Dalton State also ran, with four other runners cracking the top 100
  • The finish was the best team finish by the Crusaders at nationals
  • May finished just shy of her PR of 16:48 that she ran at the SSAC Championship
  • Vradenburgh improved her time at nationals by 32 seconds and Ford improved by 1:22
  • Acosta’s time of 19:57.4 is the fourt-best time at nationals by a Loyola runner all-time and bested her mark from last season
