Position Summary
The Assistant Commissioner will assist in all aspects of communications, media relations and marketing for the Southern States Athletic Conference. This individual will seek to advance the conference’s brand visibility, enhance the student-athlete experience and provide value to our member institutions. The position will also work together with the Commissioner and Senior Associate Commissioner in all aspects of conference operations, including on-site support at conference championships, corporate sponsorship fulfillment, and more. This position is remote, with travel required for conference meetings, championships, and select events. Preference may be given to candidates who reside within the conference footprint.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in sports administration, communications, digital media, or a related field is required
- Experience with intercollegiate athletics, event management or related areas is preferred
Creative Content, Video, Awards & Design
- Content creation for SSAC social media platforms
- Development of new content ideas, including expanded use of video
- Support content and promotional efforts tied to the league’s partnership with Urban Edge Network
- Design support for championship souvenirs, banners, awards and more
- Work with the Senior Associate Commissioner to coordinate the league’s various awards, including scheduling, nominations, voting and publicity
Championships
- Oversee select SSAC championships as the primary championship administrator
- On-site support and planning for SSAC championships
- Assistance with championship setup, breakdown, and overall event operations
- Coordination with game management staff, public address announcers, and event personnel
- Implement strategies at championships to increase attendance and ticket sales
Sponsorships
- Fulfillment of existing corporate sponsorship agreements
- Coordination of sponsor deliverables across video, digital content, social media, and championship events
Other Duties as Assigned
- Serve as a resource for SSAC members’ sports information directors
- Assistance with conference initiatives and special projects
- The ability to travel to various conference championships
