MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The SSAC announced the 2025-26 SSAC Men’s Basketball Players of the Week. Kenton Steele of Point was named SSAC Men’s Basketball Offensive Player of the Week and Gil Gonzalez of Brewton-Parker Christian was named SSAC Men’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week. The awards are for the week of Dec. 1-7.
Offensive: Kenton Steele (Point – SR – G – Hamilton, Ala.)
- This is his first-career weekly honor
- Steele averaged 22 points, 10 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game, while shooting 55% from the field and 82% from the charity stripe in a pair of games
- He put up 28 points and 13 rebounds against Brewton-Parker Christian
Defensive: Gil Gonzalez (Brewton-Parker Christian – JR – F – Aurora, Colo.)
- This is his second honor this season
- Gonzalez and the Barons went 2-0 on the week as he averaged 10.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and two blocks per game
- He brought down six defensive boards in each game and blocked three shots in a five-point win over Point
