WCU Women Finish 2nd At Outdoor T&F National Championship

The 2024 Men’s & Women’s Outdoor Track & Field National Championship concluded Friday evening with a handful of individual titles and a runner-up finish by the William Carey women’s team.

MARION, Ind. – The 2024 Men’s & Women’s Outdoor Track & Field National Championship concluded Friday evening with a handful of individual titles and a runner-up finish by the William Carey women’s team.
 
The relay team of Tyeese Smith, Machaeda Linton, Salieci Myles, and Fredricka McKenzie from WCU claimed the first title of the day, breaking a 30 year old record in the 4x100m relay with a time of 43.87.   The previous record was set by former member Central State (Ohio) at 44.32 in 1994.
 
Salieci Myles from Carey edged out Hannah Antkoviak of Olivet Nazarene, 13.16-13.19, to win the 100m hurdles with Joy Abu also from Carey taking home the individual title in the 100m with a time of 11.40.
 
On the guy’s side, there was only one individual title claimed and that came from WCU’s Barnabas Aggerh in the 100m with Life’s Andre Edwards taking second place.
 
At the conclusion of the championship Jennifer Batu from Life University was named Most Outstanding Performer for setting a new meet record of 64.14m in the women’s hammer and Machaeda Linton of William Carey was named Most Valuable Performer with 22.5 points scored.
 
Top eight finishers in each event earn All-American Honors.
