MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The 2022-23 SSAC men’s basketball year-end award winners were released Wednesday evening, with Faulkner’s C.J. Hines earning Player of the Year honors and Loyola’s Donald Reyes being named Coach of the Year.
 
Player of the Year: C.J. Hines, Faulkner (Ala.)
Coach of the Year: Donald Reyes, Loyola (La.)
Defensive Player of the Year: Vatangoe Donzo, Blue Mountain (Miss.)
Freshman of the Year: Joshua Ward, Life (Ga.)
Newcomer of the Year: Michael Harden, Loyola (La.)
6th Man of the Year: Jonathan Garcia, Faulkner (Ala.)
Sportsmanship Award: Dalton State (Ga.)
 
Noteworthy

• Hines averaged 21.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 1.8 steals per game for the Eagles while shooting 50% overall and 42% from the FT line
• Reyes wins Coach of the Year honors in his first season at the helm after guiding the Wolf Pack to a Regular Season Co-Championship
• Vatangoe Donzo leads the NAIA with 4.3 blocks per game, including highs of 11 and 13 posted within the last five contests
• Joshua Ward averages 14.1 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.7 steals per contest for Life, while logging 28.5 minutes per contest and shooting 50% overall
• Michael Harden averages 13 points, and 3.9 assists per contest, while Jonathan Garcia averages 8.7 points per game, while shooting 39% from 3-point range
