PITTSBURGH, Pa. - After an incredible and decorated Faulkner career and an impressive campaign with the Grand Junction Rockies that led to a Puerto Rico national team for the WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup, Shawn Ross has inked a contract with the Pittsburgh Pirates and will be joining their Florida Complex League affiliate, the FCL Pirates.
Ross earned SSAC Player of the Year honors as well as honorable mention all-American status with 18 home runs and 69 RBIs while hitting .317 and carrying a .910 fielding percentage at shortstop last season. Over his career he hit .314 and slugged .619 with 36 home runs and 136 RBIs in 129 games.
While with the Grand Junction Rockies in the Frontier League, Ross launched 24 long balls and drove in 90 runs in 81 games while slugging .614.
Ross hit two home runs in the U-23 Baseball World Cup including a game-winning two run blast against Germany in the final inning to lead Puerto Rico to a 3-1 win.
The Puerto Rican Powerhouse will start his Minor League Baseball career in the FCL, one of the Rookie Leagues in MiLB with the Pirates who finished third in the South Division with the Rays, Red Sox, Twins, Braves and Orioles.
