MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Southern States Athletic Conference announced the 2022 Barnes & Noble College Women’s Soccer Scholar-Athlete Team and Scholar-Athlete of the Year Thursday.
William Carey’s Julia Herbst was named 2022 Barnes & Noble College Women’s Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year after posting a 4.0 GPA as a senior Health, Rec and P.E. major. On the field, she was named Second-Team All-American and First-Team All-Conference after finishing with 20 goals and 14 assists as the Crusaders won the SSAC Regular Season and Tournament Championships.

Noteworthy
- To be eligible, student-athletes must be a sophomore or above in both academic and athletic standing, must be starters or important reserves, have at least a 3.3 cumulative GPA and have competed in 50% of competitions
- Graduate students are not eligible, and transfers must have completed one semester at the school
- Life’s Slingluff, Faulkner’s Lockwood, Mobile’s Cunningham and Middle Georgia’s Russell and Poole all have 4.0 GPA’s
- Dalton State’s Alvarez was named SSAC Golden Gloves Award winner, WCU’s Sousa was named SSAC Player of the Year and the Knights’ Downey and Russell earned First-Team All-Conference honors
