MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Miagh Downey of Middle Georgia State was named SSAC Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week and Keila Cardeiro of Faulkner (Ala.) was named SSAC Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.
The awards are based on performance for the week of October 31 – Nov. 6.
Miagh Downey (Middle Georgia – SR – FWD)
- This is her eighth-career weekly honor and third this season
- In a 3-1 win in the first round of the SSAC Women’s Soccer Championship, Downey posted one goal and one assist
- She has 10 goals and six assists on the year, leading the Knights in both categories
Keila Cardeiro (Faulkner – SO – GK – Las Palmas, Spain)
- This is her first-career weekly honor
- Cardeiro helped the Eagles to a 1-0 win in the first round of the SSAC Women’s Soccer Championship with a seven-save shutout
- She made some big saves late, including one in the final moments where she leapt to stop a shot headed toward the upper left corner
