MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Middle Georgia State swept the SSAC Women’s Soccer Player of the Week honors, with Miagh Downey being named SSAC Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week and Ellie Russell being named SSAC Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.
The awards are based on performance for the week of October 10-16.
Miagh Downey (Middle Georgia – SR – FWD – Colchester, England)
- This is her seventh-career honor and second this season
- The Knights went 3-0 in SSAC play as Downey totaled 11 points with five goals and one assist
- She posted two-goal efforts v. Brewton-Parker and Blue Mountain, notching the game-winner in both
Ellie Russell (Middle Georgia – SR – DEF – Salisbury, England)
- This is her first-career honor
- Russell helped the Knights to a 3-0 week and led a defense that has delivered four-straight shutouts
- They picked up 4-0 and 2-0 shutout wins v. Brewton-Parker and Blue Mountain, allowing only nine shots on frame on the week
