BROOKINGS, S.D. – William Carey (Miss.) won the 2020 NAIA Men's Indoor Track & Field National Championship, the school's first-ever national title in the sport and it's second in two years after women's soccer won it all in 2018.
Sophomore Dante Brown was named Outstanding Performer after winning individual national titles in the 60m and 200m and head coach Blake Hegstrom was named NAIA Men's Indoor T&F Coach of the Year. It is the 35th team championship for a SSAC squad.
Noteworthy
- William Carey won individual titles in five events and totaled 82 points, out-distancing runner-up Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) by 32 points
- The Crusaders' 4x400 relay team won, Ineh Emmanuel won the long jump and Malik Crandle won the triple jump
- WCU also got All-American performances from Crandle in the high jump, Ngoni Chadyiwa in the 400m and Brandon Norwood in the 600m
- They had student-athletes place in the top two in the triple jump, 60m and 200m
Women Finish As Runner-up
- WCU produced 71 points, only six behind champion Huntington
- Lady Crusader student-athletes claimed five individual titles and 12 All-America honors
- Brittany Jones won the long jump and turned in an All-America performance in the triple jump, while Aniekeme Etim won the 60m, 200m and 4x400m relay
